New England Mountain Bikers Inc, the University of New England, the Armidale Regional Council and Destination NSW are excited to be hosting the 2023 WEMBO World Solo 24 Hour Mountain Bike Championships in conjunction with the 2023 AusCycling 24 Hour Mountain Bike National Championship on the 4th and 5th November 2023 at the SportUNE Mountain Bike Trails, Armidale, NSW.

RACE TIME

All categories will start at 12:00 Saturday and the last lap for 24 hour solo riders must be started by 12:00 Sunday and finished before 14:00 to be counted.

Potable water will be available at SportUNE and the pits kitchen.

PRIZES

WEMBO will be providing prize money, jerseys and medals. Prize money is covered by the following WEMBO web page

RULES

The WEMBO rules and categories will be used. It is the rider and team’s responsibility to be familiar with all the rules. See the following web page.

SPECIFIC VENUE RULES

  • No open fires. Gas heater and cooker are acceptable. No wood or hot-coal cookers.

  • No riding or driving vehicles on the playing fields. Riders will be penalised a lap if they ride on the marked playing fields.

  • No dog or pets are allowed at the SportUNE facilities. Please leave them at home.

TIMING

Results will be posted live on the web during the race at www.my.raceresult.com.

SOLO PITS AND MARQUEE HIRE

Each competitor will be allocated a track side solo pit space of 3m x 3m with their entry.

Further upgraded pit options (vans etc) are being finalise and are expected to be announced in mid-February. During registration please tick the box stating if you would like information on upgraded pit allocation once options and costs have been finalised. 

Options expected to be available at extra cost will be;

  • 5m x 7m van bays,

  • 3m x 3m marquees with rider/country plate, table and two chairs (order must be in by 1 September to allow ordering),

  • Lighting and 240V power (200W max) to the above marquee. Order must be in by 1 September 2023.

If riders and teams would like to be allocated pits adjacent to other riders these entries need to be submitted with full payment by 1st August 2023 and be in the same style of pit (ie powered marquees or van). Requests after this time cannot be promised due to key orders being placed.

Equipment being stored/used in the pit space must not overhang the allocated space.

Adjacent to the Solo Pit area will be a communal marquee containing lights battery charging stations and a kitchen marquee containing microwaves, hot water jugs and potable water. Equipment left at the charging stations is at the rider/team’s responsibility.

The pits will be opened at 09:00 Friday for setup. No setup can occur before this time.

EVENT REGISTRATION AND COSTS

Online registration will be opened by 3rd may 2023 and close at 11:59pm on Wednesday 1st November 2023. Follow this link to WEMBO registration and further details - WEMBO.

Race registration will be on Friday 6th November at the Event Center at SportUNE between 10:00 and 13:00. There will be no entries taken after 17:00 Friday.  

All entrants need to be AusCycling licensed or hold a Mountain Bike Australia (AusCycling – our peak mountain bike body) Day Licence (currently $35, pricing to be confirmed for 2023) which can be purchased during the online registration process.

LIGHTS

All competitors must use adequate front lighting on their bike or person after 18:30 for night laps. For safety reasons and for enjoyment of night riding it is advised to use a good quality bike light so you can see where you are going. All competitors must have a red rear light affixed to their bike. Additionally, an emergency front light is also required should your main light fail (a head torch, flashlight, etc will suffice). The Transition zone staff will not let you enter the course unless you have the lights on your bike or person after 18:30. 

TRAILS AND COURSE

The course will utilise the SportUNE Mountain Bike Trails and are available to be ridden at any time. People using these tracks outside NEMTB events are doing so at their own risk. The main race track will be setup, from Friday 09:00. Please assist the organisers by not interfering with this marked track. The track will be closed for the race from 10:00 Saturday through to 13:30 Sunday.

The following is the course planned to be used in the World Championships and National Championships. The event organiser may change the course at their discretion.

See TrailForks route named 2023 WEMBO Proposed Route published by NEMTB in Armidale NSW Australia. In summary the course will be over 14km in length with 290m of climbing per lap. The trails are mainly hand and machine built single track. Only the HQ pits area will utilising gravel and sealed carparks areas as well as the playing fields. Ducats Way A-Line will be closed with all competitors having to use the B-Line. Black graded trails will have low effort B-Line choices to bypass technical climbing features such as step-ups.

GETTING TO EVENT HQ

Head to SportUNE complex on Sport UNE Drive in the University of New England (UNE) Campus.

  • Turn right of Sport UNE Drive and park next to the tennis courts before you get to the main SportUNE complex.

  • The trail head is directly behind the basketball courts near the poplars, look for the large trail head signs.

FOOD AND WATER

TOILETS AND SHOWERS

Toilets and Showers will be available at Hockey New England and SportUNE change rooms. Two transportable toilets will be available on the course dedicated to marshals and riders only. Team members and spectators must use the sports facility amenities.
